Tri-Cities sales tax collections up for the 10th straight month


Tri-Cities sales tax collections increased for the 10th straight month in January when compared to the same months of the previous year.

Kingsport-Bristol saw the largest increase, 5.8%.  Collections were 2.1% better than they were in December.

The Johnson City MSA posted a 3.1% year-to-year increase, but collections were 0.7% lower than they were in December.

According to MTSU Business and Economic Research Center’s monthly report one seasonally adjusted collections the Knoxville MSA had the largest year-to-year increase in East Tennessee (9.5%).

Chattanooga saw a 6.1% increase while Morristown posted an 8.7% gain.

Collections across the state were 8.7% better than January and the Nashville region led the state with a 10.5% increase.
