Kingsport isn’t the only place in the Tri-Cities with a wicked commute pattern

One of the many points emphasized during the “One Kingsport” conference was Kingsport has 30,000 people who work in the city but don’t live in it.

Here’s what the iflow numbers look like for Kingsport’s neighbors (numbers are rounded):

Johnson City – 38,000.

Bristol VA and TN – 21,000.

Elizabethton – 8,000.

Greeneville -16,000.

The takeaway is the Tri-Cities has a wicked commute pattern – especially for cities that are looking to capture the economic multiplier from attracting new residents.

Expect to see more emphasis on this from communities who exist in a system where retail sales tax collections are a prime source for local government funding.
