Tenn. unemployment hits 7 year low

Tennessee’s unemployment rate for April was 6%, down three-tenths of a percent from March and the lowest it has been in seven years.

The US April rate was 5.4%.

A summary from the state Department of Labor and Workforce Development shows April was the third consecutive monthly decline.

Total nonfarm employment increased by 6,400 jobs from March.

The largest increases came in accommodation/food services; administrative/support/waste services; mining/logging/construction; and finance/insurance.

Over the year, nonfarm employment has increased 47,000 jobs. The largest increase came in trade/transportation/utilities; professional/business services; and durable goods manufacturing.
