Johnson City MSA sees year-over-year growth in three job sectors; losses in six

Three Johnson City MSA job sectors posted September gains when compared to job level during the same month last year.

According to the current MTSU Bureau of Economic Research Center’s employment growth heat chart the growth sectors were:

  • Professional and business services. This sector has shown gains every month since September last year.
  • Education and health services. September was third straight month it has been above 1% in the comparison.
  • Leisure and hospitality. Like professional and business services, jobs in the sector have been better than the same months of the previous year every month since September.

Sectors showing job losses in September are:

Manufacturing.

Wholesale trade.

Retail trade.

Information.

Financial activities.

Government.
