U.S. sees second largest jobs gain this year in September

The labor market rebounded sharply in September as employers added 248,000 jobs, the second largest gain for any month this year.

The unemployment rate fell to 5.9% from 6.1%, lowest since July 2008, the Labor Department said Friday

State and local reports for September will be released later this month.

In August the Kingsport-Bristol labor market lost 900 jobs. That’s the seasonally adjusted number used in most media reports like the one above. The seasonally adjusted jobs data for the three-county Johnson City MSA was unchanged from the previous month.

The Tri-Cities unemployment rate last month was 7.4%.

The rate in Kingsport was 7.7%.

Bristol also had a 7.7% jobless rate last month.
