August sales tax collections increase in 3 of 4 NE Tenn. MSAs


Sales tax collections of three of the four NE Tenn. MSAs tracked an almost identical year-over-year increases in August.

According to MTSU’s Business and Economic Research Center adjusted collections were 3.8% higher in the Johnson City MSA, 3.6% higher in the Kingsport-Bristol MSA and 3.8% higher in the Knoxville MSA when compared to Augusts last year.

Morristown was the exception. Collections there were down 2.2%.

So far this year collections have been better on the yoy metric five months in both three-county Johnson City and Kingsport-Bristol MSAs.
