The NEXT America – two dramas in slow motion

The time has passed when talk about the challenges and opportunities the Tri-Cities and nation faces in the demographic change is a look at the future.

Look around, you can see it happening.

According to Pew Research’s Paul Taylor and author of “The Next America” 10,000 Baby Boomers a day will turn 65 every single day between now and the year 2030.

Some back of the envelope calculations put the number of people reaching 67 – the age for full retirement for Social Security benefits – in the tri-Cities is about nine people a day. We’re on the leading cusp of the demographic change because our population is already older than the state and national median.

The drama is capsuled in this Web presentation of the Next America. It’s an informative read.
