Feb. sales tax collections up Kingsport-Bristol, down in Johnson City

February was the Kingsport-Bristol MSA’s month to shine for sales tax collections.

Compared to the same month last year, collections were up 2.3% in the four-county MSA. When compared to January they were up 7%.

Things didn’t go quite as well in the Johnson City MSA.  Collections were 3.2% below what they were during February last year. The month-over-month comparison shows collections were down 5% from January.

Johnson City was also the only MSA in NE Tenn. that showed a decline in the latest seasonally adjusted collection report from MTSU’s Bureau of Economic Research Center.

Morristown had the best showing with a 2.6% increase.

Knoxville collections were 0.8%.

Statewide sales tax collections were 1.1% better across the state than they were in February last year.
