Local employers plan job fair in Gray to connect veterans to jobs


The Tennessee Department of Labor, Dollar General and several major employers have joined to connect veterans with jobs. The Paychecks for Patriots initiative will include hiring fairs to be held on Oct. 17 in 13 sites throughout the state and will feature local employers interested in putting veterans to work. The Paychecks for Patriots hiring fair in Gray will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Appalachian Community Federal Credit Union at 5034 Bobby Hicks Highway, Suite 2.

Governor Haslam signed a proclamation announcing October 17th as Paychecks for Patriots Day. The declaration signifies the governor’s support for recently returning veterans as well as those from past campaigns.

“Paychecks for Patriots is a great event that connects our veterans with jobs here in Tennessee,” Haslam said. “I want to thank our service members for all that they do overseas and back here at home, and I’m happy the state could partner with local employers and help in this important effort.”

Washington County’s hiring fair features the following employers:

United Healthcare
Advanced Call Center Technologies
Aid & Assist
Citibank Call Center
Eastman
FedEx
Dollar General
Holston Home for Children
Lowe’s Home Improvement
Regions Bank
TN National Guard
TN Department of Veterans Affairs
U.S. Solutions
Walgreens
Brock
R.E. West

Employers will have representatives on-site who will be accepting resumes or referring applicants to online applications.

Several agencies are contributing to the event including Labor and Workforce Development, Economic and Community Development, Military, Veterans Affairs, and the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.

“Paychecks for Patriots has proven to be a viable way to help find jobs for our Veterans, or to help them better their current employment status,” said Major General Haston. “It is imperative that we continue this outstanding relationship with our corporate partners and state agencies to assist these men and women better their way of life. I look forward to the next phase of this excellent program.”

Paychecks for Patriots hiring fairs will concurrently be held in Chattanooga, Clarksville, Columbia, Cookeville, Cordova, Crossville, Dyersburg, Gray, Jackson, Knoxville, Nashville, Talbott, and Tullahoma.
