Tri-Cities year-over-year retail sales tax collections up in December

According to the Bureau of Economic Research at MTSU seasonally adjusted retail sales tax collections were down when compared to November:

-         4.3% in Kingsport-Bristol.

-        0.2% in Johnson City.

-        1.3% in Knoxville.

Morristown showed a monthly increase of 0.8%.

The year-to-year comparison shows each of NE Tenn. MSA increased collections.

-        Morristown up 2.6%.

-        Knoxville  up 2.1%.

-        Johnson City – up 1.4%.

-         Kingsport-Bristol up 0.9%.

Year-over-year sales tax collection trended higher in the last two month of 2013 after a deep drop in October.
